Whispers from the Other Side: A Lesson from a Fraud

Whispers from the Other Side: A Lesson from a Fraud

I had such a profound experience at the Psychic fair where the reading I had was very accurate that I decided to attend another that was being held locally. Based on my last experience I was really looking forward to going.

It was held on a lovely summers day in a old looking manor house which fitted the narrative. I had already decided that I would going to have another reading, but this time I also wanted my aura reading too. We made sure we got there early for one of the first spots. There was more than one reader there. I was drawn to a gentleman reader, simply because I had never experienced a male clairvoyant before and I was curious to see what he had to offer. So, I went ahead and put my name down, along with a palm reader who I booked as an afterthought. I didn’t really have much faith in palm readers after all it’s just lines on your hand.

Excitedly, I sat down in front of the clairvoyant, braced and expectant. The reading eventually started after he had taken an extended bathroom break. It shouldn’t have but it did. I was hugely disappointed. He was quite obviously a fraud. Fishing for information is an understatement. Asking lots of questions, when I didn’t provide answers, he kept saying that he wasn’t getting anything for me. No one was coming though, and then a lot of bluster around how much people who had passed over loved me. What happened next shocked me to my core.

I heard someone next to me say very loudly, “He’s full of shit!”. My gut reaction was to laugh, and I turned to my right and started to say “Yes, I know”.  My voice caught in my throat.. I realised it was my cousins voice next to me. Except there was no one there. My beautiful cousin had passed away from cancer a few months prior. I had heard his voice as clear as a bell, as if he were sitting right next to me.  I turned back to face the fraudster in front of me and it came again…”You’re more psychic than he is”. It was most definitely his voice. I turned again to look at the empty space beside me. I knew…I knew it was him…right there with me. How did I know? He didn’t speak as I do, the way the words were delivered was in his speech pattern, which was different from mine. Also, I had been thinking about how rubbish this guy was at the time which was why I turned towards the direction of the voice, just as you would if someone next to you spoke. I didn’t know what to make of it initially, but over the next few minutes I started to realise what it meant. Validation. Validation that he was still around, that I could talk to him anytime and he would hear me, that he wasn’t gone. He was watching over me, and that he was still him.  It was a deeply comforting realisation and an experience I have never forgotten.

Although the guy doing the reading had been less than genuine, if I hadn’t had that reading, I would never have had that experience. I would never have known how close he and others are. Then it was time to step over to the table of the palm reader—the one I hadn't really believed in. But as I sat down and showed her my hands, I was about to be proven wrong all over again.

Hearing my cousin's voice was a profound moment for me.
